Lukaku set for medical before £75m move to Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku was due to have his medical in Los Angeles on Thursday night before sealing a £75m move to Manchester United, with the striker expected to join José Mourinho’s squad when they arrive in the city on Sunday for the club’s five-game pre-season tour of America. Lukaku has been holidaying in California with United’s Paul Pogba, who is a good friend and who has the same agent, Mino Raiola. The 24-year-old was due to fly back to England on Friday for pre-season training with Everton. However, as Mourinho is intent that Lukaku should be confirmed as United’s second summer signing as soon as possible, the manager has decided this is the best way to push the transfer through. The move means that, barring a last-minute hitch, United will have landed Lukaku ahead of Chelsea despite the west London club believing they were in pole position to prise him from Everton. The Red Devils’ all-time top scorer is set to seal a return to Goodison Park and the number he will represent has been leaked Wayne Rooney will wear the number 10 shirt at Everton once he completes his move from Manchester United, taking over from Romelu Lukaku, according to reports. Moses is not a cheat! _Antonio Conte defends Nigerian Star

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has defended Victor Moses after he was sent off for diving in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Arsenal. The wing-back went into the book after a foul on Danny Welbeck shortly before the hour mark, and soon after received his second yellow card of the afternoon when he went to ground under no contact from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain inside the area in the 68th minute. Nevertheless, Conte refused to judge the Nigerian and believes fatigue played a major role in the 26-year-old’s crash to the ground. “Honestly, I did not see the situation. I do not know for sure, but there is a lot of attention on this moment. Sometimes I think it could be tiredness,” Conte said. “We are at the end of the season and a lot of players are tired and then there is a lot of pressure. For sure, it is not a good situation to dive, it is true. “But Moses is an honest player and if there was this situation he was tired and he did not want to cheat the referee.” ...

Price-tag has affected Pogba - Jose

Jose Mourinho has admitted Paul Pogba's "problem" at Manchester United this season has been the huge price-tag "on his back". The midfielder joined United in a world-record £89.3million transfer from Juventus last summer and he seems to have struggled with the weight of expectation on him at Old Trafford this season. The 24-year-old's form has been inconsistent and Mourinho admits the huge fee has had an impact on his performances. He told Omnisport: "I think the problem is the tag, the price tag on his back. I hope next summer he's not anymore the highest transfer fee and then the pressure goes to somebody else. "If his transfer fee was half of it, everybody would say 'what a buy,' 'he's playing more than good'. But everybody expects performances according to that huge transfer fee and that brings pressure and that brings sometimes unfair analysis." Mourinho insists the France international, who ...

The allegations reportedly came from a letter written by the woman – who was in her 20s at the time – but Ronaldo denies ever seeing it. The statement reads: ‘The German newspaper Der Spiegel today publishes an extensive report on an allegation of rape alleged to have been made to Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, ie about 8 years ago. ‘It is a piece of journalistic fiction. The alleged victim refuses to be identified and corroborates the story. ‘And the whole plot is based on unsigned d...
